Stantec received ACEC-SK’s 2020 Community Initiative Award for their Stantec and YMCA Regina Partnership. The award acknowledges the donations of time and/or services of a member firm to the benefit of Saskatchewan communities or groups.
Stantec’s goal was to provide YWCA funds and staff to promote three key initiatives in 2018 and 2019. Ultimately increasing YWCA Regina donations, expanding their ability to support the community. Those three initiatives were:
• Walk a Mile in Her Shoes
• Community Day
• Christmas Toy Drive
Stantec’s Regina office has 100 staff. Many of their staff have participated on some level by volunteering, donating money, and/or providing in-kind serves. This initiative was driven corporately, but supported by staff though their involvement in the various initiatives.
Over the last two years they have helped upgrade the facilities for those in need, raise funds for their facilities and programs, and utilized their reach on social media to provide increased awareness for YWCA Regina.
There were many benefits to Stantec partnering with YWCA. Not only were they able to aid those in need in our community through their financial contributions, but they also gave their staff a chance to be involved personally. It’s easy to cut a check from a corporate perspective, but a key part of their initiative was providing 250 volunteer hours. Thier staff invested their own time to take part in the various initiatives they outlined. There is a sense of pride when giving back to the community you live in. Recognition came in the form of a personal thank you, which was the greatest benefit for their staff.
Recognition also came in the form of public exposure. Stantec was able to utilize its extensive media network and internal public relations specialists to promote YWCA, and Stantec’s involvement. This exposure helped Stantec to be recognized as an organization that is trying to make a difference and be a leader in their community.
